LVG set for first test as Swansea visit OT

The new Premier League season gets underway on Saturday as Louis van Gaal prepares to take charge of Manchester United in competitive action for the first time.

Swansea City visit Old Trafford as United look to put last season's disastrous campaign behind them and kick-start an exciting new era under their new Dutch boss.

Having enjoyed a hugely successful pre-season, including triumph in the International Champions Cup, it is difficult to forget that van Gaal's first real action is yet to arrive.

The 62-year-old has a host of injury concerns for the game, with summer signing Luke Shaw unavailable due to a hamstring problem, with Jonny Evans also a doubt in defence.

In attack, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck are doubtful, whilst United are also anticipated to be without Antonio Valencia and Michael Carrick.

Van Gaal could be set to throw promising young duo Tyler Blackett and Reece James into the fold, with Ashley Young in line to be deployed as a winger back in LVG's preferred 3-5-2 set-up.

Ander Herrera is set to make his debut for the club, alongside vice-captain Darren Fletcher and Juan Mata in the three-man midfield.

Swansea City were also the opponents when David Moyes' failed tenure at United got underway, with the Red Devils running out comfortable 4-1 winners.
