Di Maria move a significant step closer?

A move to Manchester United for Ángel di María appears nearer, with Real Madrid confirming that the player wants to leave the club amid rumours he is keen on a Premier League switch. 

United have been heavily linked with a move for the Argentinean, with speculation suggesting the club could commit huge resources to any move.

Real boss Carlo Ancelotti has now confirmed that the player "asked to go in the summer", having rejected an offer from the Spanish giants.

As the transfer window approaches its final days, and with the Marcos Rojo deal complete, United could now turn their attentions to di María, in a deal which would deliver a major statement of intent to the club's top-flight rivals.

Conjecture states that a move to England is of interest to di María, though United would likely need to smash their transfer record to bring the 26-year-old to Old Trafford.

Di María is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2018.
