Speculation is rife that a big-money deal to bring Ángel Di María to Old Trafford is imminent, with Manchester United reportedly set to smash their transfer record to sign the Argentinean.

Reports indicate the Red Devils could be set to splash out a whopping £50million on the player, who has told Real Madrid of his desire to leave.

The player was hotly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but Financial Fair Play rules make a move from the Ligue 1 outfit problematic.

26-year-old Di María, who would be likely to become the club’s new number seven should a move materialise, is a skilful, attack-minded player who could provide United with a cutting edge that has too often been missing in recent times.

The signing of Di María would mark a massive statement of intent by United, following a disappointing start to the new Premier League season, highlighting the club's ability to still attract a name amongst the most coveted in world football.
