Kagawa returns to Dortmund as Van Gaal continues shake-up

Shinji Kagawa has left Manchester United to re-join Borussia Dortmund on a permanent basis, returning to a club where he is adored. The deal is reportedly for a fee of £6.3million.

Kagawa was a popular figure with many United supporters but has enjoyed a mixed spell with the club.

He moved to Old Trafford in 2012 in a deal worth £12million, but has struggled for regular first-team football, as well as the chance to impress in playing role he reportedly favours.

In his first spell at Dortmund, Kagawa bagged an impressive 24 goals in 61 appearances and is widely revered amongst fans of the Bundesliga outfit.

The player has said he is "delighted" to return to a "fantastic team" with "unique fans".

Kagawa's switch will see the 25-year-old return to the Champions League. He is expected to play a key role for the Bundesliga outfit under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp.

The Japanese international made 57 appearances for the Red Devils, finding the net on six occasions, but it will go down as a move which never really worked out for the player.

His final outing at United came in miserable fashion. Kagawa limped off the pitch at Stadium MK with an injury before Louis van Gaal's side suffered a humiliating 4-0 League Cup reverse.
