Louis van Gaal claimed his first win as Manchester United boss, as his new recruits showed their massive potential in a 4-0 demolition of Queens Park Rangers at Old Trafford.
On his Old Trafford return, Rio Ferdinand, along with his fellow QPR defenders, endured a torrid afternoon as United secured a comfortable victory.
Following a busy transfer window, there was an air of optimism around Old Trafford for the visit of the Hoops, and new acquisition Angel Di Maria broke the deadlock as his long-range free-kick floated through a crowded penalty area and beyond QPR's 'keeper Rob Green.
Ander Herrera's low finish doubled United's lead, before Wayne Rooney opened up a three-goal lead for the hosts by capping off some impressive build-up play from van Gaal's men.
United remained in firm control after the break, and Juan Mata put the gloss on a comfortable home win as he steered home from Di Maria.
Substitute Radamel Falcao came close to adding a fifth for the Red Devils, with Adnan Januzaj also spurning a late chance, but van Gaal will be delighted with the result and performance, with his new-look side showing their ability to tear apart sides at this level.
We are, well and truly, off and running!
