Cup hopes ended for Marginson's Rebels

FC United of Manchester's hopes of an FA Cup run have ended at the second qualifying round stage following a 1-0 defeat against Lancaster City on Saturday.

Trevor Sinclair had suggested that, more than six years after hanging up his boots after appearing in the 2008 FA Cup final, he could feature for the injury-ravaged Dolly Blues.

Though his name was on the team sheet, however, the Lancaster assistant remained an unused substitute as the Red Rebels bowed out of the competition by a single goal.

Mike Hale, Lancaster's goalkeeper, put in a tremendous display as FCUM were left frustrated despite enjoying the better of the game for long periods.

Billy Akrigg's late curling effort ultimately proved enough for the visitors, who ply their trade a division below Karl Marginson's Reds, to take a step closer to Wembley.
