Could Pique make sensational Old Trafford return?

Former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique has refused to rule out one day returning to the Red Devils.

The 27-year-old swapped Old Trafford for the Nou Camp in 2008 and has since become one of the world's most accomplished centre-backs at Barcelona.

Since returning to Barca, he has won four La Liga titles with the Catalan club, a brace of Copa del Rey crowns and the Champions League and FIFA World Club Cup two times apiece.

Pique, who had played for Barca as a youth player, returned to his childhood club for a bargain £5million. Though clearly a massive prospect at United, first-team opportunities were difficult to come by for the towering Catalonian.

The player, however, enjoyed his spell at United. He made 23 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson, and has not ruled out a return to the club.

"You never know in football," he told FourFourTwo Magazine.

"I've always said my club here is Barcelona and in England I want Manchester United to win.

"I've got a few friends there now - Ander Herrera and David de Gea being two - and I got on well with everyone while I was there."

Pique faces competition for regular first-team football at the Nou Camp, which has led some to speculate that the player could favour a move away from the club.

However, whilst not ruling out the prospect of pulling on the red shirt again, he added of Barca: "It's where I've always dreamed of playing and I have no intention of leaving. I've just renewed my contract and would love to finish my career here. But you never know."
