Mata settles contest

Juan Mata Garcia grabbed the crucial goal as Manchester United made it four wins on the bounce with a vital, 2-1 home win over Stoke City.

Mata's second-half free-kick settled the contest, as it eluded everyone in the penalty box and found its way beyond Asmir Begovic.

United had taken the lead courtesy of Marouane Fellaini's header, before Steven N'Zonzi restored parity six minutes prior to the interval

Louis van Gaal's men controlled the game for long periods, and will feel as if they thoroughly deserved the points, though Stoke's Mame Biram Diouf came agonisingly close to levelling things up at the death.

Despite the late nervousness, van Gaal, who was without skipper Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria, will be very pleased his side's winning form continues.

Full Time - Manchester United 2-1 Stoke City
