Falcao rescues New Year's Day point for United

Falcao grabbed a much-needed goal as Manchester United made it three away draws on the bounce, sharing the spoils with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

2015 began as 2014 ended - with a draw - as Louis van Gaal's men fought back from an early setback in the Potteries.

Ex-Red Ryan Shawcross broke the deadlock in only the second minute, but Colombian frontman Falcao restored parity as he fired home a corner.

The goal was the 28-year-old's third United strike. The player will be hoping 2015 leases new life into his Red Devils loan spell.

In difficult New Year's Day conditions, the hosts will feel they were worthy of maximum points, despite United's enjoying a lionshare of possession.

Peter Crouch hit the post, whilst accusations of a Chris Smalling handball went on deaf ears when Stoke's players felt they warranted a penalty kick.
