Burnley beaten but United fortunate to claim maximum points

Burnley have not won at Old Trafford since 1962 - and, despite plenty of nervy moments, United claimed an important 3-1 victory in the latest all-Lancashire clash.
In a combative game with seven yellow cards, Chris Smalling grabbed a rare brace as United moved up to third in the Premier League. The England defender nodded home Radamel Falcao's flick to settle early nerves, but United's lead lasted only six minutes.
David De Gea denied Michael Kightly, before prolific frontman Danny Ings restored parity to the delight of the travelling Clarets, as he turned home from Kieran Trippier.
Smalling headed United back into the lead prior to the interval, and the result was put beyond reasonable doubt on 82 minutes as Robin van Persie dispatched a penalty,after Scott Arfield felled Angel Di Maria.
Burnley, however, will feel like this game was a missed opportunity. Sean Dyche's men registered more shots and corner-kicks than their illustrious opponents, but were left frustrated.
This was a big win for United, and keeps Louis van Gaal's men five points behind their bitter Manchester rivals. However, the performance raises plenty of question marks.
