Manchester City suffered a 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, keeping United third in the Premier League, on what has been a truly excellent Easter weekend for Louis van Gaal's men.
The Citizens lost 2-1, with Yaya Toure's goal on 79 minutes no match for Jason Puncheon and Glenn Murray's earlier efforts.
Monday evening's result means City are the only side in the top four not to win this weekend. Meanwhile, defeats for Liverpool and Southampton, and a draw for Spurs, make it was an excellent weekend for United.
The Red Devils now look very much on course for a return to the Champions League, following a one-season absence from Europe's elite competition.
United boast an eight-point cushion over fifth spot in the table, with the current surge in form coming at an ideal time.
Van Gaal's men are also one point ahead of City, with things beautifully poised ahead of this weekend's massive Manchester derby. United will be desperate to avenue the 1-0 defeat from November, and extend their lead over the bitter Blues.
