Looking forward to August

As I write this piece, the cricket ground over the way from the football stadium is preparing to host the T20 clash between England and New Zealand in the last match of the Kiwi's tour. The Australians are next for another Ashes summer plus we have Wimbledon, The Open and Super League to keep us entertained. However in reality many United fans are already looking forward to the new season which opens over the weekend of 8th August with a home game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Following the home match against Spurs, the red army makes the short journey down the M6 to Birmingham for an away match against Aston Villa.  The first month of the league season is rounded off with a home match against Newcastle United followed by a trip to South Wales for a clash against Swansea City.  It is only six weeks away until the season begins and ManUtdWeb is looking forward to 2015-16 with tremendous optimism and the return of Champions League football cannot be a bad thing either.  Lois Van Gaal is stamping his authority on the team and signings such as Memphis Depay are wetting fans' appetites.

On a sad mote Brian McClair (pictured) is leaving Old Trafford to take up a position in Scotland with the SFA as performance director. We wish him well. Choccy was a formidable player and a great goalscorer for United in his playing days and has worked with United's academy for many years since hanging up his boots.
