Rooney hat-trick in Belgium

Wayne Rooney found his goalscoring boots and rediscovered his form on Wednesday evening as he struck three times against Club Brugge to put Manchester United into the Champions League group stages. United who took a 3-1 lead onto the continent were always in control and took the lead on twenty minutes when the United skipper finished a neat move which helped to quieten the home crowd.

Further goals followed in the early stages of the second half and the demolition job was finished when Herrera scored United's fourth to make the aggregate score an emphatic 7-1 to the Red Devils.

"I wasn't worried, if it was going on for three, four, five games more then maybe so but it's early days and I knew when the chances came I'd take them," he told BT Sport.

"As a striker obviously you want to score, everybody goes back to last season and it was so many games without scoring, but a lot of top quality strikers are yet to get off the mark at this stage. I understand because of my name and because of who I am it will get publicised a lot more. That's my job and I understand that."

The only downside of the evening was a missed penalty by Hernandez who blasted his spot kick wide which would have made it a five goal victory. 

The travelling fans were in good voice despite the Belgians attempted rendition of you'll never walk alone!
