In a repeat of the 1990 final, Manchester United and Crystal Palace face-off on Saturday in the FA Cup Final. The Red Devils will be hoping to win the world’s most famous Cup competition for the first time since 2004.

United put Palace to the sword after a replay in 1990, but Saturday’s contest must be settled on the day as Louis van Gaal targets silverware success and to end a three-year trophy drought for the club.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club as champions of England, United have struggled to challenge for major honours, but van Gaal can relieve pressure on his own position by securing a 12th FA Cup triumph for United.

Victory would ensure United were the competition’s darlings once more, moving them level with Arsenal on a dozen triumphs.

United have no fresh injury concerns, with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Luke Shaw the most notable names in the treatment room. Meanwhile, Marouane Fellaini returns from suspension and will hope for inclusion for the showpiece final.

Palace have been hit by the loss of Welsh international Joe Ledley with a broken leg, whilst Wilfried Zaha will also miss the chance to line-up against his former employers with a hamstring problem.

Saturday marks United’s 19th Cup final, but Palace’s only other appearance came in 1990. With their most notable Cup honour to date the Full Members Cup of 1991, a win would mark the most famous day in the Eagles’ history.

A narrow victory over Sheffield United set United on their way to Wembley, with victories over Derby County and Shrewsbury Town followed. West Ham United took the Red Devils to a replay, before late drama secured victory over Everton in London. The Eagles, meanwhile, have brushed aside Southampton, Stoke, Spurs, Reading and Watford.

This is a simply huge game for Manchester United. After a difficult time following Fergie's departure, and silverware elusive despite hundreds of millions of pounds spent, a return to FA Cup glory would be a fantastic achievement for the club, players and supporters. Come on United.
