The future of former Manchester United frontman Robin van Persie remains up in the air, with contrary reports claiming that clubs have pulled out of the race for his signature, and that Fenerbahçe are not prepared to part company with his services.

Van Persie has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League, with Middlesbrough and Stoke City reportedly joining the Hammers in expressing an interest in signing the player.

However, some press reports suggest RVP's wage demands have been a stumbling block in any move to the Olympic Stadium.

Indeed, despite apparently being willing to take a huge pay cut to join the London outfit, West Ham would still need to find a six-figure weekly sum to pay the ex-Arsenal man.

Middlesbrough’s interest in the player may also be impacted by the salary issue; with media stories claiming RVP is paid a whopping £240,000-a-week at Fenerbahçe. Stoke City’s interest is said to be for a loan bid.

Other reports, however, suggest RVP will not be allowed to leave the Turkish giants, who is believed to have two years remaining on his current deal.

Fenerbahçe finished second in the Süper Lig last season, but have suffered a challenging start to the new season after being dumped out of the Champions League by Monaco at the third qualifying round stage.

He grabbed 16 goals for the club in league action last term, from 31 outings. That followed a three-year spell at Old Trafford, in which the Rotterdam-born, towering forward scored 57 goals from 104 appearances.
