Devine swaps United for Swindon Town

Former Manchester United defender Reece Devine has joined League Two outfit Swindon Town - after being released by Manchester United.

Devine, 20, failed to register a senior team appearance for the Red Devils - but did play five Football League Trophy matches for United's Under-21 side against league opposition.

He spent time on loan last season with St Johnstone, making ten appearances, and Walsall, adding a further 8 starts.

Devine's time with St Johnstone saw him appear against Turkish giants Galatasaray in the Europa League.

United's hierarchy did not feel Devine had a long-term future at the club and he was released on a free transfer this month.

Stourbridge-born Devine has now penned a two-year deal with the Robins - and will hope to play a leading role in Swindon's search for promotion next season, after the Wiltshire club lost in the play-off semi-finals to Port Vale last term.

Following the signing, Swindon's technical director Sandro Di Michele told the club's media team: "Reece is a high calibre young player with experience in the academies of some top Premier League sides, and we’re delighted to have him onboard.

"He also brings with him some valuable experience in League Two and playing in Scotland, which has contributed massively to his development, and I’ve no doubt he’ll have a really positive impact on the pitch moving forward."
