Barcelona presidential candidate Josep Martinez Rovira has shocked United by declaring he will bring Ruud van Nistelrooy to the Nou Camp if he is elected. Rovira's comments follow United accepting a bid from rival candidate Joan Laporta for David Beckham.

Martinez Rovira has amazingly announced that if he is elected he will bring
the Manchester United striker to the Nou Camp. Rovira will be hoping his promise to sign van Nistelrooy will earn him votes over Joan Laporta in the forthcoming elections. Laporta has had a bid, believed to be in the region of £30million accepted by United for David Beckham, and he is the hot favourite in the presidential elections at Barcelona. Alex Ferguson has been quick to confirm that van Nistelrooy, who scored an amazing 44 goals this campaign for United, is not for sale, but despite this Rovira has insisted he will bring the Dutchman to the Catalan club. "If I am successful, on the 16th, we will have the best number nine in the world," said the ambitious Rovira. "That is none other than Ruud van Nistelrooy." "We have still to reach an agreement over figures with Manchester United, but the player is delighted to come," he added. Despite these comments, Ruud's agent is sure he will stay at United, saying: "I have spoken with Alex Ferguson and he said to me that he had found out about Barca's interest in Ruud, he was adamant. "He told me that we will not negotiate with any other club because he is one of the most important players at Manchester United."
