The young Manchester United side participating in the Northern Ireland Milk Cup celebrated in a shower of the white stuff following their 1-0 final victory over Preston North End. Richard Jones' golden goal gave United their first victory in the competition for twelve seasons.

A young Manchester United side lifted the Northern Ireland
Milk Cup trophy last night following a 1-0 extra-time victory over Preston North
End. Richard Jones' golden goal secured United the title in the Premier Division of the prestigious competition, for the first time since David Beckham, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes led United to the trophy twelve years ago. United coach Dave Bushell was delighted with the victory, and has his team celebrated in a shower of milk he announced how proud he was of his players. "What a great night for us. The boys were terrific although it was a hard-earned result," said Bushell. "Its marvellous that we are able to meet the high expectations that follow us." Jones' goal came from a superb run from on-trial winger Jamie Day. The 17-year-old beat several defenders on his charge down the right flank before cutting the ball back for Jones, who finished neatly from close range. Day is currently on trial with United from Peterborough United, and was watched closely by scouts through the tournament. His performances in Northern Ireland may well have earned him a contract at Old Trafford. The tournament has been a fantastic success for the young United side, who won all 6 of their matches during their stay in Northern Ireland. United eased through their qualifying group without conceding a goal with impressive victories against County Armagh, Panathinaikos and New Zealand's Otago. United them went on to beat Bayern Munich in the quarter-final and Cherry Orchard in the semi-final to set-up the all Lancashire final against Preston North End. Tournament Results Round-Up:
