Manchester United are believed to be lining up a £10million offer for West Ham United's striker Jermaine Defoe. The 20-year-old had a transfer request rejected just one day after the Hammers were relegated last season, but he has still been linked with a Premiership move throughout pre-season.

Manchester United are believed to be lining up a £10million
bid for West Ham United striker, Jermaine Defoe. The England Under-21 international caused huge controversy last season, after handing in a transfer request less than 24-hours after the Hammers' final league game against Birmingham City, which saw them relegated. The request was quickly rejected by West Ham officials, but the 20-year-old has been linked with a Premiership move throughout pre-season. It's been a torrid couple of months for West Ham United supporters, with many of their top players leaving for Premiership clubs, and the loss of Jermaine Defoe would be a massive blow to the promotion aspirations of the London club. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wants to sign another striker before the transfer deadline on August 31st, and Defoe would be a popular choice among United fans, and would increase pressure on Diego Forlan to start performing. |
