United chief executive Peter Kenyon is believed to have asked Chelsea to increase their offer for Juan Veron. The London club made an initial offer, believed to be in the region of £15million for the Argentinean, but Veron's impressive pre-season form has seen United demanding a higher offer.

Manchester United are believed to have asked Chelsea to
increase their bid for Juan Sebastian Veron.
United chief executive Peter Kenyon has been considering an offer from the London club, believed to be in the region of £15million over the past few days. Veron's superb perform during United's successful pre-season tour of the United States has left Kenyon demanding a higher offer from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. The Argentinean midfielder has denied that he wants to leave Old Trafford, vowing to fight for his place in the starting line-up at United. Sir Alex Ferguson has echoed Veron's comments, saying he is happy for the 28-year-old to stay in Manchester. Veron joined United two seasons ago for a record breaking fee of £28.8million. Since then, the midfielder has failed to fulfil his potential with United, and his performances on the domestic scene have come under criticism from supporters. However, the departure of David Beckham, and United's failure to land Ronaldinho will give Veron a real chance to prove he is worthy of a regular place in the United team, and his pre-season performances have shown what he is capable of. |
