Manchester United continue to keep the pressure on Arsenal and Chelsea as Ryan Giggs struck twice to help United beat arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield. Harry Kewell rekindled Liverpool's hopes and closed the gap to 2-1 but couldn't produce a goal although they had ample chances to equalize. Irishman John O'Shea returned to the United line-up and Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench for the Red Devils and Michael Owen wasn't even in the Liverpool squad. Despite a very inactive first half, Ruud van Nistelrooy nearly gave United the lead after his flick-on from a free-kick was just wide of the post. It appeared the ball connected with his hand and got booked by referee Graham Poll. Ozzy Harry Kewell had two efforts saved by Tim Howard just before the break and the game was starting to take shape.
