Alex Ferguson has praised his team for their 2-1 quarter-final win over
London outfit Fulham in the FA Cup and that they are now ready to take on
FC Porto at home in the Champions League, after slumping to a 2-1 defeat
in Portugal.
Two Ruud van Nistelrooy goals saw off The Cottagers at Old Trafford and now gives them an upper-hand advantage for when they go to Loftus Road for the return leg and Sir Alex Ferguson considers himself happy with the performance. "We showed great determination to come back today and hopefully that will stand us in good stead for Tuesday." said Fergie "Generally we defended very well. Because of the situation we are in at the moment the crowd are getting nervous every time we pass the ball around at the back but we have always done that." The United boss, managing his first game with his new assistant Walter Smith, has defended Wes Brown's lunging tackle on luis Boa Morte, which ened up being a penalty to the Londoners which Steed Malbranque converted on the 21st minute. "Wes had to make that tackle and he was a bit unlucky. I thought after that we defended very well because Fulham are a handful and make it very difficult." Fergie has also lavished praise on Portuguese superkid Cristiano Ronaldo, who set up United's winning goal. "Ronaldo was marvellous. He's improving all the time and the boy has got unbelievable potential." |
