According to reports in Spain, Spanish club Atletico Madrid have snubbed a large bid from United in the region of £24 million and Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan in an attempt to try and capture their world-class striker Fernando Torres.

Spanish club Atletico Madrid have snubbed a large bid from United in the
region of £24 million and Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan in an attempt to
try and capture their world-class striker Fernando Torres.
Atletico immediately rejected The Red Devils' bid for Spanish international Torres and look to keep their star player at El Vicente Calderon until his contract runs out in 2008. United were also reportedly trying to flog off Diego Forlan as part of the deal after failing to impress critics since moving to Old Trafford from Argentine giants Independiente in the winter of 2002 for £7.5 million. Torres, 20, has fired in 13 goals for his beloved Atletico Madrid this season helping Los Rojiblancos reach an impressive 5th place and are flirting with the likes of Deportivo and Barcelona in a very competitive La Liga. His latest goal was a last-gasp winner in stoppage time to see off Real Mallorca. The youngster nicknamed 'El Nino' is a Spanish international and was recently perused by the predictable Chelsea after impressing scouts attending a game at El Vincente Calderon. |
