Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed his desire to play for England in the Euro 2004 championships in Portugal this summer although having to miss 8-months of football due to a ban. Ferdinand has only missed 10 games so far and United are already missing his influence at the back.

Ferdinand has revealed his desire to play for England in the Euro 2004
championships in Portugal this summer although having to miss 8-months of
football due to a ban.
Ferdinand, who was signed for a whopping £30 million from Leeds in 2002, was banned from playing football for 8-months in the winter after missing a random drugs test at United's Carrington training ground. "The thought I could still play for United and go to Portugal is what has made me so driven in training." said the 25-year old. "I've worked hard, maybe even harder than usual, believing there is light at the end of the tunnel. It feels like I have been out for about two seasons." he continued. "During the week it is not so bad because I'm in there with the lads as usual and you are kind of involved. "But the weekends feel like a whole week in themselves. Knowing I will not be playing is the hardest part." Ferdinand has only missed 10 games so far and United are already missing his influence at the back. The England international is wishing that his ban gets reduced at his appeal hearing on Thursday. |
