Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is set to sign a new deal which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2009 despite being banned from football for 8-months after missing a random drugs test. Ferdinand, 24, has been linked with Champions League contenders Chelsea in recent days.

set to sign a new deal which will keep him at Old Trafford until 2009
despite being banned from football for 8-months after missing a random
drugs test.
Ferdinand, 24, has been linked with Champions League contenders Chelsea in recent days but the £30million man is set to pen a new deal at United. Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson
confirmed that United are discussing a new deal with the defender, saying:
"We have been discussing a new deal with Rio, although it is still at
the early stages." "I think his form has been magnificent. You don't realise just how good a player he is until he's not there. To me, he's been terrific." he added. Ferdinand was signed from Leeds in the summer of 2002 for a record £30 million after a fantastic World Cup performance in Japan and South Korea. |
