Forlan to Attract Interest via Copa America

Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has admitted that he is going to use the Copa America tournament as a window to escape from Old Trafford.

25-year-old Forlan is very likely to move to Spain this summer after netting just 17 goals in 85 appearances in a United jersey since his £7.5 million move from Argentine outfit Independiente in the winter of 2001.

Despite a great string of games earlier this season, the Uruguay international is now looking elsewhere to improve his career by playing regular first team football and the arrival of Alan Smith will limit his chances even more.

"Playing in the Copa America will be good for me," he said.

"I've found it difficult at United this season because it is hard to get into a rhythm when you play one game and don't play another for a few weeks."

"At one stage in the year I played eight games in a row and I felt full of confidence but it isn't the same when you are only doing it on the training pitch."

"At least I know I will get a few games with Uruguay, so I'm not looking at my future just yet. We will see what happens when the Copa America is over."
