Ronaldo Heads Home Late Consolation

The host nation slumped to a 2-1 shock defeat by the hands of Greece in FC Porto's Estadio do Dragao.

Inter Milan midfielder Georgios Karagounis opened the scoring on the 7th minute when his powerful effort proved too much for goalkeeper Ricardo.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's men had a golden opportunity wasted before the half-hour mark. Chelsea bound Paulo Ferreira's marvelous cross created an open goal for Rui Costa but the midfielder could not convert.

Ronaldo along with Porto's Deco were  half-time replacements for the unconvincing Rui Cotsa and Simao.

The United wonderkid's excitement got the better of him when he hacked down Seitaridis inside the box minutes after the re-start. Referee Pierluigi Collina waved a definite penalty that Basinas struck home.

But Ronaldo did make up for his gauche tackle with a beautiful injury time header that proved no more than a consolation.
