Ronaldo's Portugal See Off England

Manchester United's Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes all featured for England but couldn't find away past Old Trafford team-mate Ronaldo and his Portuguese side.

Michael Owen put England into an early lead after capitalisng on a defensive error to flick it past Portugal's Ricardo.

To mar a decent first half display from England, Wayne Rooney limped off just before the half hour mark with a broken bone in his foot.

With just 7 minutes of normal time remaining, substitute Helder Postiga nodded in an equaliser to make sure the game goes into extra-time. England thought they'd made it through however when Sol Campbell harmlessly poked home a winner that was somehow denied by referee Urs Meier.

Rui Costa makes it 2-1 with a fabulous strike from long-range but that was cancelled out by Frank Lampard 5 minutes after.

Two missed penalties from David Beckham and Darrius Vassell cost England to lose the penalty shoot-out and fall at the quarter-final hurdle in Portugal.
