Solskjaer Could Miss Three Months

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suffered another injury blow with a recurrence of a knee problem that saw him miss most of last season. The Norwegian international could potentially miss three months of next season, a bitter blow for the club.

It's further bad news for Manchester United and loyal forward Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the news that the versatile player could be out of action for up to three months after suffering a recurrence of a knee problem. As a result, the Norwegian international is certain to miss United's tour of America and could be out of action until November, denting the Red Devils' hopes of an assault on the Premiership.

Solskjaer was missing for the majority of last season with knee problems, but returned to action after surgery and it was thought he would be fit and raring to go for the 2004/2005 campaign. However, it has now been revealed that the fan favourite is once again suffering from similar problems and could require further surgery.

"When Ole went to get treatment at the end of the season he saw a Swedish specialist, who is reputedly the best in the world, " said Sir Alex Ferguson.

"There was a proviso from the specialist there would possibly be a second step. That's the second step we are taking now. It is not a shock, only a disappointment. There were no guarantees after the operation as it was a trial and hopefully there would be success.

"But we feel now that it has not been 100% successful and that he should take the second phase and go back and see him again. It may mean he will be out for five-six weeks. But if it is worse than maybe two or three months."

The news will come as a real blow to the club, and further stretch the squad for the start of the season with Ronaldo and Gabriel Heinze on international duty at the Olympics and a handful of other players being rated as doubtful with injuries.
