Manchester United will kick off their
pre-season tour of America in Chicago and will face German outfit Bayern
Munich at the Soldier Field Stadium.
It is The Red Devil's 2nd consecutive tour of the United States of America but this time due to the European Championships and Copa America, there was limited options of who to take across the Atlantic Ocean. Youngsters Luke Chadwick, Bojan Djordic, Phil Bardsley, Jonathan Spector and Chris Eagles replace tired Euro 2004 stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Scholes, Louis Saha, Mikael Silvestre and Ruud van Nistelrooy in the depleted 18-man squad Sir Alex Ferguson has picked. However Diego Forlan, Gabirel Heinze, Kleberson, Gary Neville and Phil Neville will join up for the latter stages. United's Young Player of the Year Jonathan Spector looks set to be given a run-out on home soil in defence on Sunday along with John O'Shea, Wes Brown and Phil Bardsley. The midfield may consist of Luke Chadwick and Bojan Djordic on either flank with Roy Keane and Nicky Butt in the centre. £7 million summer signing Alan Smith will make his United debut up-front with Frenchman David Bellion. Ryan Giggs is doubtful with a minor thigh injury. Strong opponents Bayern Munich will parade summer-signings Lucio and Torsten Frings and will be looking to forget about last season after finishing in 2nd place behind champions Werder Bremen. The Soldier Field Stadium, home of MLS side Chicago Fire, will seat up to 67,000 people and is one of the biggest stadiums in the States. You can watch the game live on MU:TV (KO 9pm BST) or if you don't have that privilege you can read the in-depth match report the day after the game here at ManUtdWeb. ManUtdWeb Prediction: Manchester United 0 - 1 Bayern Munich: I'm going for a United loss for the simple reason that is United will field a young and weak team that won't match the strength that Bayern possess. United will also find it hard to score past rock-solid Oliver Kahn. |
