Ricky Sbragia’s Manchester United reserves got their season off to a winning start with a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest. Kenny Cooper and Dave Jones were the scorers, as 244 watched on at Altrincham's Moss Lane.

The Manchester United reserve team got their season off to a winning start with an impressive 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Kenny Cooper and Dave Jones were on target for the Red Devils at Altrincham’s Moss Lane, with 244 in attendance.

Cooper was included in the clubs recent squad number list, and put up an impressive attacking display capped off by the opening goal of the night on 32 minutes. The young American will be hoping for some first-team football this season.

A back-four of Picken, Howard, McShane and Eckersley held out as United kept their noses in front, and the result was made sure in the final minute. Highly-rated Welshman Dave Jones netted the winning goal in the dieing seconds to secure an opening day victory for Ricky Sbragia’s side.

With United now competing in two reserve leagues, the team that started was not a strong one, but Northern Irish international Roy Carroll started between the sticks. The Ulsterman kept a confidence boosting clean sheet as he battles it out with Tim Howard and Ricardo for the number one jersey.
