Ferdinand Ready for Captain's Armband

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he would be foolish to reject the opportunity of captaining the Red Devils following his game as skipper against Fenerbahce on Tuesday, that United won 6-2.

England international Ferdinand kept the armband warm for Roy Keane, who was rested for the Champions League tie.

The centre-half has only returned to action after being banned for 8 months due to missing a drugs test, but has showed no signs of a lack of fitness since his return.

Speaking in an interview, Ferdinand said: "I would be stupid not to accept the captaincy if it was offered further down the line," 

"It was an unbelievable feeling to lead the team out on Tuesday. I didn't know anything about it and I was delighted to be asked to follow the long line of players who have led out a team with such great character and great history.

"To walk out of the tunnel first was great but I will have no problem walking behind Roy Keane against Middlesbrough on Sunday." he added.
