Hargreaves to MUFC?

Owen Hargreaves has been linked with a move to Manchester United. The England international is thought to be anxious to move to the Premiership from Bayern Munich, and Sir Alex Ferguson has registered his interest in the versatile midfielder.

Manchester United have been linked with a swoop for Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves. The England international has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premiership, and Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to be eyeing up a move for the versatile defensive-minded player.

Ferguson is believed to have approached Munich boss Felix Magath enquiring about the availability of Hargreaves, who would help to add depth to the Red Devils squad. Hargreaves has been linked to a number of English clubs, and Spurs are believed to have come close to securing his signature over pre-season but pulled out over a wage squabble. This indicates Bayern Munich would be allowed to let the 23-year-old leave Germany.

There is little doubt another midfielder would bolster the United squad. The likes of Eric Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson and David Bellion have struggled to settle at Old Trafford, so Ferguson would love to bring in a player eager to play in the Premiership. At a tender age, Hargreaves could have a bright future at United and with only 18 months left on his Bayern contract could be signed at a cheap price, although the Bundesliga club are reported to value the Canadian-born player at £10million.

Chief-executive David Gill is believed to be willing to sacrifice his ‘sell before buy’ policy to fund the transfer, with United looking to strengthen their squad for a silverware push during the New Year.
