Manchester United v. Arsenal - Match Preview

Two of England's most fierce rivals, Manchester United and Arsenal, will lock horns in order to whittle down the last 8 teams in the Carling Cup to the last 4 of the competition.

The two sides faced each other at the back end of October earlier on this year, and The Red Devils prospered, ending The Gunners' unbeaten league run of 49 league games. Since United sunk Arsene Wenger's side 2-0 at Old Trafford, the Londoners have not been the same free-flowing, attacking side they use to be prior to the league clash.

Due to their slip in form, not only have Sir Alex Ferguson's side have found form, but, Arsenal let go of their top-spot place to Jose Mourinho's Chelsea and there is now a big title battle ahead of us.

However, this tie is not for vital Premiership points, but for a place in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.

Arsenal progressed to this stage of the cup following victories against Manchester City and Everton whilst United triumphed against Crewe Alexandra and Crystal Palace.

Naturally, Sir Alex Ferguson predicts the game will be fast and furious and has revealed he's giving his youngsters a run-out. "It is the quarter-finals of the League Cup, so you can expect a competitive game. It doesn't matter who you play against."

"It's a chance to get into the semi-final and everyone wants to get there. It will be a game of high-quality and I am looking forward to it." he added.

Scotsman also exposed his team plans, adding: "I will play the same squad as against Crystal Palace, albeit with Louis Saha not involved. Young Giuseppe Rossi comes into the picture, as does Chris Eagles."

"Rossi is one we would like to include. He has impressed us with the games he has played since he arrived at the club from Italy. Rossi, Gerard Pique and Floribert N'Galula have been absolutely fantastic. We’re very pleased with them."

"You always learn about your players in these matches. It is an area where you can test the players; test their character, their temperament and their ability to play at the top level. It’s a great moment for all the young players here."

Arsenal's squad is also likely to consist of fringe and youth players. French youngster Gael Clichy is to return following injury.

ManUtdWeb Prediction: United 1 - 0 Arsenal: I'm backing the fringe and youth of United, as the strength on depth at Old Trafford is far superior. It'll be nice for the youngsters to progress and even with the Caring Cup. C'Mon United!
