United Receive Planning Permission

Manchester United have been granted the necessary planning permission to start work on extending Old Trafford by Trafford Borough Council on Thursday evening.

An extra 7,900 seats will be added to the Theatre of Dreams, bringing it's capacity up to 76,000, which could rake in at least £5 million extra per year.

The extension will be ready for the 2006/2007 season and building is set to commence towards the end of the current term.

Director at United Phil Townsend is delighted with the news, stating: "This is great news,"

"We believe this will be of huge benefit to the club, the fans and the Trafford Borough Council."

Over 67,000 fans pack into Old Trafford every week and tickets are difficult to come across once released for public sale. United deemed it relevant to put forward proposed plans to Trafford Borough Council last season as Old Trafford is brimming with supporters week-in week-out.
