Neville Takes Swipe at Nike

Gary Neville has criticized Nike for supposedly trying to cash in on a recently launched an anti-racism campaign in football. Neville has questioned Nike's motives and even claimed they may-well be trying to generate extra cash for their pockets with such campaigns.

Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville has criticized Nike for supposedly trying to cash in on a recently launched an anti-racism campaign in football. Nike, the world's leading sports brand, are trying to cease all forms of racism in football and other sports by persuading top sides across Europe and their players to wear 'Stand Up Speak Up' (the name of the campaign) accessories including training kits and wristbands. Neville has questioned Nike's motives and even claimed they may-well be trying to generate extra cash for their pockets with such campaigns. "We have to make sure that the campaign is conducted in the right manner and not done just for PR like some of the sports companies seem to be doing at the moment" said Neville. He added: "We don't have a big problem with racism in this country, you can think of probably one or two incidents in the last five or 10 years." "The FA and the England team have always campaigned against racism very well, we have just got to be aware that it is not cheapened slightly by companies like Nike getting a lot of PR out of it for nothing." The Red Devils' contract with Nike, who produce their training and playing kit, is now in jeopardy. |
