United v. AC Milan - Match Reaction |
|
Carroll - The goal wasn't entirely his fault. -
5
G Neville - Was quiet, didn't see much of him. Grew tired as the game
progressed. -6
Rio - Not one of his better performances but solid as usual. As it was
AC Milan, as you can expect, he had a lot to do at times. Went forward at times too. -
7
Brown - After a shaky start, was probably our best defender. A few questionable moments. Continuing his recent good form…
-7.5
Heinze - Typical performance from Heinze - battled throughout. Solid
defence wise but bas passing. – 7
Keane - Nothing spectacular – 6.5
Scholes - Missed a good chance to score, not exactly his best performance too! -
6
Fortune - I wasn't expecting him to start but he was one of the best
players on the pitch! Could have scored but was unlucky to stumble before the shot and the pass to him was quite poor. Strong in tackle
too. The best I have seen of him-very impressive. Faded slightly in the second half though.
-8
Giggs - Despite expectations, he was ineffective. In my opinion, he
should have been substituted. -5
Ronaldo - Excellent pace, outran Milans defenders too-no wonder they
stated the feared him before the match! Best attacking outlet for us. Also noticed some good defensive work at times.
-8
Rooney - It was never going to be easy for him-especially considering the fact he played as a lone striker and he was up against such a
great defence. -7
Substitutes:
Van Nistelrooy - 4 (Lacked match fitness)
Saha - 6
Silvestre - 5
I'm not sure whether I would like to see Brown or Silvestre start alongside Rio-after all, they both suffer from lapses of
concentration. Although Brown has been through a good form recently. But at times, Silvestre can be great…at times only though!
As I stated, the goal wasn't entirely Carroll's fault. We've got 2 great goalkeepers, but sadly, no World class ones. Despite what people
think of him, he is probably our best goalkeeper we have got. Or perhaps we should give Howard a chance. Or perhaps, in the Summer, we
should buy a new one! Although, with Liverpool and Arsenal probably looking for new goalkeepers, I've got a feeling that the price of good
goalkeepers is suddenly going to shoot up! But on the bright side of things, Carroll is better than Dudek. And Howard and Carroll are
better than Lehman or Alumunia.
I'm not sure why Fergie substituted Fortune and Ronaldo-clearly our best players!
