Fletcher Targets April Comeback

Darren Fletcher is hoping to be back in first-team action by April. The Scotsman picked up a knee ligament injury during the 2-0 derby-day victory away at Manchester City.

Manchester United's versatile midfielder Darren Fletcher has targeted the month of April for a return to first-team football after a frustrating spell in the treatment room.

The Scotsman picked up a knee injury in the recent derby-day win at the City of Manchester Stadium, and was told he could miss the rest of the season. However, Fletcher has made quick progress and could be available for selection as soon as United's home clash against Blackburn Rovers on the 2nd of April.

"I have been out for two weeks so far and am making good progress," said the 21-year-old.

"Six or seven weeks is the timescale I have been given, so anything before that would be a bonus and hopefully it won't be that long.

"I have been doing some hard work in the gym and hopefully I will get on with some light jogging later this week."

Fletcher can expect a battle for regular football when he returns from injury. The departure of Eric Djemba-Djemba to Aston Villa will have made things easier for Fletcher, but there is still strong competition for places so the youngster will have to seize any opportunity Sir Alex Ferguson presents him.
