Hargreaves Reveals United Interest

Bayern Munich and England international midfielder Owen Hargreaves has confirmed reports claiming Manchester United made enquiries about his availability earlier on in the season, but decided not to launch a transfer bid.

The 24-year-old has made his desire to play in the Premiership no secret in recent years with a number of English clubs, and Spurs are believed to come the closest in securing the Canada born midfielder. This indicates Bayern Munich would be allowed to let the 24-year-old leave Germany.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have approached Munich boss Felix Magath in an attempt to find a permanent successor to Old Trafford skipper Roy Keane. Recent signings including Eric Djemba-Djemba and Kleberson proved major disappointments in midfield, so Ferguson may opt for more of an established holding midfielder.

Hargreaves admitted: "The club told me they received an enquiry about me from him Sir Alex Ferguson. But it went no further"

Regarding a future in Premiership football and Tottenham Hotspur's strong interest, he added: "The timing wasn't right last summer but Frank Arnesen [Spurs' Director of Football] told me to keep in touch,"

"To play for a club like Tottenham and live in London would be wonderful."
