Assistant Manager Carlos Queiroz has leapt to the defence of Ruud van Nistelrooy, insisting the striker is not to blame for last week's European Champions League exit to AC Milan. Too much was expected from the Dutchman heading into the game.

Manchester United Assistant Manager Carlos Queiroz has leapt to the defence of Ruud van Nistelrooy, insisting the striker is not to blame for last week's European Champions League exit to AC Milan. The Dutchman suffered criticism from the media and the Old Trafford faithful after his performance in the San Siro defeat, but Queiroz has slammed the reports. Van Nistelrooy had only played over 200 minutes of football after being sidelined for 3 long months with an Achilles and ankle problem. Too much was expected from the Dutchman, who has a prolific goal-scoring record in Europe. "When you lose, you lose together," claimed Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man.
