Smith to Miss Radebe Testimonial

Alan Smith's return to Leeds United has been put on hold following concerns about the Manchester United striker's security at Elland Road for Lucas Radebe's Testimonial match.

The England international, once a hero in Leeds, left the club last season following relegation from the top-flight to the Football League.

Smith was certain to leave and committed the ultimate sin. Despite an array of clubs from England and Europe expressing interest, Smith moved across the Pennines to Old Trafford.

A return to Leeds for former team-mate Lucas Radebe's Testimonial now seems very unlikey. "Alan Smith would love to play" admitted Chairman of the organising committee, David Share. "But it wouldn't be prudent so soon after him moving from Leeds to United to have him involved." 

"He is very disappointed and I would imagine the vast majority of Leeds supporters are disappointed too" he added.

"We are only dealing with a small minority, but it is the decision that has been taken"

"We are not able to invite certain players back - it is a fact of life" 

Smith was on the score-sheet as the Red Devils defeated Southampton 4-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
