Ronaldo: "I'm My Own Man"

Manchester United midfielder Cristiano Ronaldo has stated he does not try to imitate the skills of either Old Trafford legend David Beckham or Real Madrid star Luis Figo when he steps onto the pitch.

The 20-year-old, a team mate with Figo in the Portuguese national squad, simply wants to achieve what both Figo and Beckham have achieved in their prosperous careers and not adopt their style of play.

"I am my own man," said the winger. "I will never take free kicks like Beckham or dribble in the style of Figo but if I am allowed to do things my own way I hope to be just as successful as both of them"

"I try not to think about stepping into their shoes when I play for either United or Portugal"

"They are both world-class players and as far as I can see Beckham is still a hero in Manchester and Figo will always be a legend in Portugal." 

Ronaldo has yet to be on the winning team of a European Champions League Final, unlike the two Madrid stars. Ronaldo has only picked up an FA Cup medal so far as a Red Devil and missed out on the European Championship trophy with Portugal last summer, but is adamant he can win more accolades.

"I still believe success is just round the corner for both my club and country" he added.
