Youngsters in International Action

A number of young Red Devils have been in international action over the past few days, featuring in either a European Under-21 Qualifying game or playing in the Montaigu Under-16 Tournament in France.

England Under-16 boss Kenny Swain included three United stars, Ben Amos, Febian Brandy and Michael Nardiello, in his 18-man squad to travel to France for the annual Montaigu Tournament, but have yet to pick up a first win of the event following games against Japan and Portugal.

Brandy and Nardiello both started in the opening 2-0 defeat to Japan on Wednesday before also appearing in the dramatic 3-3 draw with Portugal.

United forward Ramon Calliste was involved in a rare Wales Under-21 victory in Merthyr tonight, as Brian Flynn's youngsters held onto an early Marcus Berger own goal to secure a win against Austria.

Defender Paul McShane endured a tough night in Israel, going down 3-1 as the Republic of Ireland's hopes for qualifying for the European Under-21 Tournament still look slim.

Winger Kieran Richardson, on loan at relegation battlers West Brom, guided Peter Taylor's England to a fine comeback to beat Germany 2-0.
