Giggs in Contract Talks

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson have revealed that the club are in talks with winger Ryan Giggs over a new contract, ending months of speculation the Welshman is set to walk out of the Old Trafford exit.

The 31-year-old is reportedly unhappy with the club's policy to offer contracts of just one-year or under to players of thirty years of age as Giggs looks to fully commit his future.

"We've been negotiating and talking to him but nothing like the press are making out, that there's some sort of impasse that can't be bridged" said the Scotsman.

"We're very close. Ryan wants to stay and we want him to stay"

However, Ferguson also confirmed the winger will miss the FA Cup Semi Final with Newcastle in his home town of Cardiff this Sunday. "We won't be including him on Sunday. There's a lot of incentives for Giggs to play but you've got to be realistic. A hamstring is a hamstring"

Giggs desperately wants to play in Cardiff and even appeared to a training session when he had a leave of absence due to the injury. "I'm shocked" he added. "All of a sudden, he came in and said he felt a bit better"
