Charlton Athletic v. Manchester United - Preview

Manchester United travel to The Valley tomorrow in a bid to keep the pressure on Arsenal, who are clear favourites to finish in the runners-up spot according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson's future as Red Devils boss has come under some questioning recently but is adamant he's still hungry for trophies and success.

"I think we'll be better next year" predicted the wily Scotsman.

"I think we're disappointed not winning the league as it's very important to Manchester United and we're very disappointed not to have done better in the European Cup."

Regarding the fight for 2nd spot, he added: "I think Arsenal are clear favourites. They need to drop five points in four games"

"I was hoping they'd drop points against Tottenham but they won so it's a bit more difficult for us."

Charlton Athletic, who sit just below the top half of the table in 11th, have let a Uefa Cup spot slip recently but need to climb the table for the financial boost.

Despite working wonders at Charlton, boss Alan Curbishley claim the club are not immune to criticism. "I can't be immune to it, I keep saying this football club now is in The Premiership, next season will be our seventh year out of the last nine which is incredible," said Curbishley.

"For us we've got to take it like everybody else, I'm not immune to it nor are the players."

Charlton will be without Hermann Hreidarsson while United's Ruud van Nistelrooy is ruled out with an ankle injury.

Paul Scholes returns from suspension picked up against Everton but Gary Neville is still banned from action.
