The majority of Manchester United fans think that recent signing Edwin van der Sar can fill the great Peter Schmeichel's boots in-between the sticks, according to a recent poll conducted by ManUtdWeb.com
A massive 69% of voters think the Dutchman, capped
over 100 times for his country, can perform on a consistent basis and prove
better acquisitions than goalkeepers in recent years.
Many goalkeepers including Raimond van Der Gouw, Mark Bosnich, Massimo Taibi, Fabien Barthez, Andrew Goram, Tim Howard, Ricardo and Roy Carroll have all failed in living up the the Great Dane's high-standards.
However, the 35-year-old who was signed from Fulham, may prove a temporary solution . Fans predict things will change for the better defensively next term with van der Sar guarding the sticks.
Will Van der Sar solve our goalkeeping problems?
Yes 69%
No 19%
Unsure 12%

"I've nothing against Van Der Sar, I think he is a very capable goalkeeper but he turns 35 this year, it seems he is a stop-gap solution to a problem we have been having for years. I would have preferred an established younger keeper who would be at United for a long time to come. It seems in a season or 2 we will be back to square one." - Irish Red
