MUFC officials have been left embarrassed by an act of vandalism that left the front of Old Trafford proudly displaying a four-letter word in neon lights rather than the club's name. What could this mystery word be?

Things on the pitch are looking good after romping victories at Clyde and Peterborough United, but the club's difficult pre-season continues as officials at the Theatre of Dreams were left with red faces as vandalism altered the famous neon construction that spells out the club's name above Old Trafford's glass entrance.

Whether this was a protest against Glazer, one of the few City fans who didn't make the journey to Asia for their pre-season tour or a chav with abseiling capabilities, the changing of the letters 'Manchester United' to reveal a "mystery" four-letter word is rather cringe worthy to say the least.

"We have had contractors in doing work on the stadium. It seems someone has messed with plugs at the back of the lights as a prank." said club spokeswoman, as the club looked to squash reports that this was an anti-Glazer protest from furious supporters.

"We would like to apologise to anyone that took offence - the sign now proudly says Manchester United again."

Whatever this four-letter word is, ManUtdWeb wouldn't like to imagine.
