Welsh winger Ryan Giggs has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Real Madrid thought to be eyeing up a bid. The La Liga giants could be interested in a swap-deal with Scouser Michael Owen heading to the Red Devils.

Ryan Giggs has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. The Welshman, who has made 600 appearances for the Red Devils, could be set for a transfer to the continent as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to freshen up his squad and launch an assault on Chelsea's Premiership crown with a new-look line-up.

Reports are suggesting Madrid are set to table an offer for Giggs, but United may prefer a part-exchange deal with the midfielder and cash heading to Spain in exchange for former Liverpool forward Michael Owen. United have been persistently linked with the Scouser despite Owen insisting he is happy with the La Liga giants.

"We are lacking a left midfielder and need to buy one." confirmed Real Director of football Arrigo Sacchi, who has also been linked with a move for unsettled Arsenal winger Robert Pires.

It's silly season and wild transfer speculation is a necessity. However, having failed to challenge for the league championship for two seasons, pressure is mounting on Ferguson to deliver and he could look to sell Giggs as the MUFC backbone that brought so much success during the 1990's continues to crumble away.
