Bayern Munich have warned Michael Ballack to reach an agreement with the club over a new contract, sparking fresh rumours Manchester United are interested in the German's services.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has reiterated his intentions to stay at Old Trafford despite tempting links to La Liga giants Barcelona and Real

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he's keen on purchasing an experienced midfielder in order to his balance a youthful looking side and Ballack fits the bill.

Regarding Ballack's reluctant to put pen-to-paper, Bayern manager Uli Hoeness insisted: "It can always come to the point where we have to say 'no' [to Ballack's contractual wishes]"

A reported bust-up between Fergie and skipper Roy Keane has hit the headlines recently and puts the Irishman's Old Trafford future in further doubt. The Scotsman has been looking for Keane's successor for months now and Ballack is on the shortlist.
