McShane Seals Seagulls Loan

Young Irishman Paul McShane has signed for Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion for five months to bolster the Seagulls' defence.

McShane turned down other offers including a move to Swindon Town, who signed Sheffield Wednesday's young defender Patrick Collins on-loan until the New Year instead.

The 19-year-old centre-back had a glimpse of non-competitive first team action last summer, joining a depleted Red Devils in their tour of the USA.

After spending his Old Trafford career thus far in the reserves and youth-teams, McShane will gather experience on-loan in the South Coast for five months and manager Mark McGhee is delighted with his swoop. "We're pleased to have Paul joining us," he said.

"He's exactly the type of player we want at this time and we think he'll be good for us. We've had him watched, and he played well, so we're looking forward to working with him."

McShane joins fellow United team-mates Ben Foster, Chris Eagles and David Jones on-loan in the Championship.
